I thought it was kind of weird. Just... avocado, and toast?
I was feeling extremely lazy but also didn’t really feel hungry until close to 9PM. Toasted a couple of english muffins, smashed some avocado with black pepper, salt, and a little sprinkle of shichimi togarashi (a Japanese spice mix). Gave it all a good stirring, slapped it on some toasted english muffins, and was pleasantly surprised.
Next step: add either bacon or sausage (I generally prefer a sausage patty on breakfast sammies) and a fried egg. I think this could be the ultimate breakfast sandwich.
Here’s some other JDM spice:

I’d eat the hell out of that. With or without sausage.

Bacon is what I was thinking before I even opened the post.

shichimi togarashi- I love that anime!

Today I learned that the word avocado comes from the Aztec word for testicle.

Hipsters are strange.
I make it a personal rule never to eat a sandwich made of condiments/accoutrements.
Butter
Mayo
Avocado
BLT (unless the bacon is super thick, it’s like a club sandwich made by a stoner who forgot the turkey)

Today you also learned that the word orchid is derived from the Greek word for testicle.

This isn't anything new. My dad's made these since the '90s. Kind of annoying how people are saying it's the next big thing and acting like they're the first to discover it. Not you specifically, but lots of people who I've seen.

Oh I did.

Today you also learned that testicle is derived from Latin for witness.
Testify.

Avocados are cheaper now than they used to be, as fa r as I remember . In season, even here in KY, they’re a super cheap/semi healthy way to add some richness to food. I imagine in the SW they basically give them away like cucumbers and tomatos here.

Hipsters are strange.
Fuckin hell.
I bought PBR to drink tonight, too. I was underage drinking this shit long before hipsters ever found it. Hopefully they’ve moved onto something else, like a single plum, floating in perfume, served in a man’s hat .
BLTs are generally dry, but I think they can be good if they’re made with the right bread, bacon, and dressing.
That said, I’m with you on a sandwich made of butter or mayo. Not sure how that would work. Not saying I’m beyond trying it (and possibly enjoying it) but it’s not really a sandwich.
Also, I didn’t have an avocado sandwich. It was more of a spread.

I already knew that.

The hipsters drinking PBR stereotype is long outdated. It’s all about craft beer to them now. (Believe me, I see tons of them at local breweries). I now most often see PBR being consumed by tacticool types for some reason.

You can eat an entire loaf of bread and butter and it will never really be a sandwich. Delicious, perhaps, but never a sandwich... even if sandwiched, strangely enough.

Never really heard of this before until some article came up about how millenials can’t afford houses because of avocado toast (I think it was something along those lines but I thought it was funny).
Then again, in the 90s I was still a young lad and a horrendously picky eater.

Well, I enjoy it as a utility beer: it’s cheap and it gets the job done.
I’m kind of getting over craft beer since it’s an oversaturation of really hoppy beers. Luckily, I’m starting to find craft beers that are much better than the big brands but don’t just assault your face with hops.

If I could star you twice for the Simpsons/Yoko reference, I would.

I’m one of those weirdos who likes hoppy beers, but yeah, even garden variety lagers and such from craft places just taste a lot better.

Avocado basically serves the same purpose as butter. That’s why you need a little ... something else ... to make it tasty. It’s like unsalted butter, only creamier.

BLAT is best sandwich. No mayo.

The fact they’re expensive confuses me. In SoCal you just need to know one person with a Haas avocado tree and you’ll never need to buy one in season because you can’t find enough people to give them away to before they become an impossible mess. My aunt kept one basically as a bonsai in her yard along with a small lime tree and a similar lemon tree. Another aunt had one she let get big (yet still pruned relatively small) that just produced unreal numbers of avocados (which became a mess because you couldn’t consume them all) and we had a back door neighbor that had a full-sized avocado tree that produced probably a literal ton of them every year.
Interestingly, tomatoes, zucchinis, and cucumbers are things you can’t give away in season in SoCal, either, and they have a long season. There’s a reason people eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables there.

Add red chili flakes and you’re good to go.

A vocado is a strange thing. Its kind of a condiment yet kind of not. I do enjoy some avocado toast and bacon would make it perfect. Its definitely not a sandwich. It’s toast. Which I think puts it on the right side of the BLT debate. Screw the BLT. Unless you triple the B and dump cheese all over it.

I was thinking about adding that but decided not to since the togarashi seasoning I used is mostly ground red pepper, not the larger flakes that I use in most other applications (like the kind you put on pizza).

It’s not that I have a problem with hoppy beers, but when the craft beer scene exploded everybody tried to differentiate themselves by doing the same thing.
Some IPAs are absolutely marvelous, but after trying so many hoppy beers I’ve come full circle to drinking utility lagers since they’re easy to knock back.

True, which is why I spread it on my english muffins instead of sandwiching it.
My local diner makes a yummy eggs benny with ham, cheese, avocado, and tomato. Topped with the poached egg and chipotle hollandaise it’s my favourite breakfast ever.

Definitely not a sandwich, it was essentially avocado spread on toast.

I found with the seasoning I added that it was tasty. You’re right in that something else would make it better.
